Have you ever asked yourself what's in a name? Why did I chose La Zucca (The Pumpkin) for the name of my bed and breakfast? Well, I have always been fascinated by the juxtaposition between the interior and the skin of the pumpkin. The latter, protects the sweetness on the inside. While the colourful interior with its honey taste is something we Mantuans, immediately respond to, as it is an essential ingredient of our town's signature dish. The same juxtaposition between interior/exterior can be found in the nature of my B&B, the worn facade is counterbalance by warm welcome and beautiful rooms that await our guests. In addition, the breakfast I provide is –like the pumpkin – simple, yet hearty comfort food,. Thus, I hope, that our lovely renaissance-era B&B will appeal to all who are looking for a special room with character, charm and modest pretensions, and for the chance to sample life behind the tourist facade of Mantua Last (but not least) I would like to note that while our town's signature dish: "tortelli di zucca" (Pumpkin tortellini) is often critiqued by non-Mantuans as , too sweet, I urge you to experiment, and try it for yourself.
